Prov. 14:27 – THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS A FOUNTAIN OF LIFE.

“Do not be afraid,” is what Jesus said to Simon Peter.

Why? Peter was a grown man, a commercial fisherman, unafraid of anything, a macho man, confident of himself and of his abilities to handle life as it happened to him.
So why was he afraid now?
  1. Jesus had just shown Peter that He, a carpen-ter by trade, knew more about where the fish were than Peter, the professional fisherman, did!
  2. Peter realized that he was dealing with God Himself, not just a man.
  3. Peter knew in his heart that he was a sinful man and unworthy to be in the presence of a holy God.
So, if these three things were true, why did Jesus tell Peter that he did not need to be afraid?
  1. “God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16
  2. “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” – John 3:17
  3. “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8
Peter decided to follow Jesus and he be- came a fisher of men and women for God. How about you? What decision have you made about Jesus Christ? Are you fearing Him or ignoring Him? Remember, to fear the LORD Jesus is to be in reverential awe of Him and to trust Him totally, and to love Him completely. Just as Jesus did for Peter, He has great work for you to do with eternal rewards, if, like Peter, you will recognize that you are a sinful person, confess it to Jesus, and decide to follow Him with reverence, trust, and love.

How about right now?
